Why?

Fishing for Simplicity is about the search for simplicity and meaning, and the love of fly fishing for wild trout in beautiful places. Join me in the journey.

Beginnings

Welcome to Fishing for Simplicity! Since this is my first post, I’ll do a bit of an introduction.

My name is N.D. You can call me Nate if you’d like. I’m a fairly typical guy. My favorite hobby is fly fishing with photography coming in a close second. I’ve been married for nearly five years. My wife and I don’t yet have any children. I work as an engineer during the day and blog underground by night.

I started this site to chronicle my search for a simpler, more minimalist life. Right now, I’m far from it. I’m entangled in all the normal things, but I want something more, or less depending on how you look at it. I don’t believe “simple” or even “minimal” necessarily always means “less,” but I do think it means eliminating the unnecessary clutter and leading a more focused life. If you follow along, you’ll encounter the barriers, victories and lessons along with me. Maybe I’ll take you along with me on a few fishing trips as well.

So, the site’s name? Like I said, my favorite hobby is fly fishing, so that’s the inspiration. Fly fishermen like to say that any and everything is “like” fly fishing. Religion is like fly fishing. Life, taxes, politics, marriage, brain surgery, football and eating ice cream are all like fly fishing. It’s more likely than not that the search for the simple life is like fly fishing as well. We’ll find out.

Thanks for joining me on this journey. I hope we can both find deeper, more meaningful, simpler, less cluttered, more passionate lives. Let’s get started!
